PROGRAM DETAILS

Phase 1:

The first phase is open to 7th and 8th grade students who live in Illinois and attend Title I public schools. Students have 20 Saturdays of enrichment each academic year during this phase; 10 in the Fall and 10 in the Spring. Students will also have academic enrichment (mostly in STEAM fields) during the full summer break. Students will be grouped in cohorts of 20 and will also receive placement assistance for the 9th grade. This program will be free including transportation and books.

Phase 2:

The second phase is open to 9th grade through 12th grade students who participated in Phase 1 of Next 20. The first two years of this phase are advanced versions of Phase 1. In the summers prior to the 11th and 12th grades, students will be paid as peer mentors to students in grades 7-10 in addition to receiving ACT and SAT preparation. Students will be aided in pursuing admission to selective and competitive colleges and universities as well as identifying and securing scholarships and grants.

Phase 3:

The third phase will be open to college freshmen who participated in Phase 2 of Next 20. Students will receive four years of support in this phase. During years one and two, Next 20 will assist students in identifying research and internship opportunities during the summer. During years three and four, students will be offered workshops on resume building, interviewing, and applying for graduate programs.

Phase 4:

The fourth phase is an alumni network for our graduates. In this phase, alumni will serve as a support and guidance system for students in phases 1-3.
